Proposed Electric Vehicle charge points on PRE (EVCP batch 2)

Lambeth’s Housing Estate Resident Engagement team have sent out a letter to Coburg Crescent Palace Road Estate residents regarding a consultation for proposed Electric Vehicle charging points on our estate. The Electric Vehicle charging points are funded through a government grant and will not be put onto service charge paying residents and tenants bills.

The consultation runs from 13th June to the 4th July as is open to all PRE residents. Below is a copy of their letter:

We’re pleased to let you know that Lambeth Council have been successful in securing Government grant funding to expand the Electric Vehicle Charge Point (EVCP) network on Lambeth’s Housing Estates. Palace Road Estate has been shortlisted for the installation of two Electric Vehicle Charge Points as part of the first phase of our borough-wide rollout.

The installation and operation of Electric Vehicle Charge Points forms part of Lambeth’s work to enable the transition to cleaner transport, which will improve local air quality and reduce carbon emissions.

What’s happening?

We are planning to install 44 new Electric Vehicle Charge Points across several estates this year, with work expected to begin later in summer 2025.

While we know that only a small number of residents may currently own an electric vehicle, we want to ensure that everyone has the option to switch to a cleaner, greener vehicle in future. Providing convenient access to charging points is a key step in supporting more sustainable travel.

The Electric Vehicle Charge Points that we are proposing to install are dual-socketed 22kWh fast chargepoint, with each chargepoint serving two vehicles at any one time.

What are the proposed locations for the chargepoints on PRE?

Two locations have been proposed on Coburg Crescent on Palace Road Estate. To coincide with the installation of the Electric Vehicle Charge Points, it is also proposed to create 2 dedicated EV recharging bays. The introduction of EV recharging bays will prioritise kerbside space for EV users to make it easier for them to recharge their vehicles. The bays will operate at all times and would only be for use by Palace Road Estate residents who are actively recharging their EV, allowing a maximum stay of 4 hours. To ensure we maintain adequate clear footway with for pedestrians it may be proposed to install the EV chargepoint in the carriageway.

Location 11 (of 44): Coburg Crescent 1 SW2 3HU

Location 12 (of 44): Coburg Crescent 2 SW2 3HU

Why were these locations chosen?

We’ve aimed to strike the right balance between technical feasibility and resident need. When selecting locations, we carefully considered:

  • Proximity to the mains electricity supply
  • Available space in the estate
  • Any previous requests or expressions of interest from residents about EV charging

How can I find out more and to give my views?

Please review the information and leave your feedback by no later than 04 July 2025. Comments must relate only to the elements of this scheme.

Next steps

Residents will be advised on final locations following the outcome of the consultation.
